Hello, my name is Kelly Shackelford, and it is an honor that I serve as Principal of Bowie High School. I have been a part of Bowie Independent School district since 2001 when my wife, Margaret, and two sons, Carter and Davis, moved to the city of Bowie. I began teaching Biology and was the Head Baseball Coach and Assisted Coaching Football until 2007 when I moved into the administrative side of education. I became the Assistant Principal of BHS for 2 years before moving into Bowie Junior High as Principal. My two years as Principal at BJH were awesome as I watched our students have the opportunity to be taught by great teachers and grow to become fine young men and women. Now, as Principal of Bowie High School, I look forward to watching our students turn to a new chapter in their lives.

With High School comes greater responsibility and greater accountability. This is why I have very high expectations for the students of Bowie High School. My philosophy of education is no different than my philosophy about life. You see, I believe the one thing a person can control is the amount of effort they put into achieving. I believe in the power of people to overcome obstacles. I believe to achieve great things, you have to expect greatness. I believe in self-discipline. I believe actions speak louder than words, and I believe success can not be measured on one scale.

With this philosophy, it is my goal to put forth a great effort into leading our faculty and staff to educate the students at Bowie High School to the best of our ability. My expectations for the students, faculty, staff, and myself is to be great. I will do what is right, which is to do what is in the best interest of the students, and will not expect anything less than greatness.
